Transition to work event in SEND feedback

Haringey Involve and the Life and Work team at my AFK hosted an informative event this February about how my AFK supports young people with learning disabilities into employment. Harriet Fisher (Executive Director of Services) gave participants insight into the learning process our trainees go through. I was also discussed common barriers young people face to get into employment. The event was a success as all in attendance were able to get answers and meet other organization due Kathryn McAuley Disability Employment Adviser at Tottenham Job Centre Plus was at the event giving free advice and support to parents. Sara Miller Director of Markfield Centre reported that she found the event to be very useful and informative.

Help shape the future of transition

Mike Wilson of Public Voice has been back in touch with us to say that the Joint Adult Social Care Partnership Board are not just limiting their parent carer representation to two people and welcome members to join who have children who will be transitioning in to adult services in the next few years and those whose children have recently transitioned.  They will meet once every two months at a time and venue to suit the majority of members – daytime and evening meetings. He has also said that as well as coming via the forum you can get in touch directly to find out more or to join by phoning him on 020 3196 1896 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . We have circulated this second request to HI members.

And Kenton , as the lead for the forum , will feed in what you told us at the HI Transition Event in March was key to a good experience

  • Inspire to have aspirations (parents, young people, schools)
  • Link with employment – thinking about their future
  • Solution focussed and flexible
  • Promote independence
  • Clear pathways for youngsters with EHCPs
  • More support needed for parents with disabilities to support their children
